As Project Manager, I coordinated the motion design and animation teams to complete three videos for Gilead Research Scholars. In these shorts follow three innovative doctors as they discuss their work’s inspiration and impact around the world.

I also served as animation lead on these projects and helped storyboard the videos for Steven and Jennifer.

The animations were made with Animate CC and After Effects.

Gilead’s Research Scholars Program supports innovative research from emerging investigators around the world to advance scientific knowledge in areas of unmet medical needs and improve the lives of patients everywhere. Inspired by the example his father set for him at a young age, Takahiro Kodama had long aspired discover something new and notable for humanity. As he began the early stages of his career, he set out to explore how a genetic mutation impacts the development of advanced liver cancer. Now, his research is helping progress our understanding of the disease so we can better treat patients — and one day perhaps even prevent or cure it. From the moment she set foot in Mwanza, Tanzania, Jennifer Downs has been committed to uplifting women’s health in the community. Her work led her to discover a link between a common local parasite and HIV infection rates in women. With support from Gilead’s Research Scholars Program, Jennifer is exploring the roots of the connection — and transforming patient care and women’s health along the way. As an early-career research scientist, Stephen Chan faced doubts about his ability to continue his work without adequate funding. Encouraged by his mentor, he applied to Gilead’s Research Scholars Program, which enabled him to pursue his research of pulmonary hypertension — while also serving as a mentor to other junior scientists. Modeling his own mentorship style on what he experienced, Stephen is just one of the many examples of how the Research Scholar Program works to advance science, together.
